What Does an AC Compressor Solenoid Valve Do?

An AC compressor solenoid valve is the electronic valve on a variable-displacement compressor that sets how much refrigerant the compressor delivers. The A/C control unit sends it a signal, and the valve raises or lowers compressor output, so the cabin holds its set temperature. It is also called a control valve.

Which Cars Does This BMW AC Compressor Solenoid Valve Fit?

This BMW AC compressor solenoid valve, CL-3010, is listed for BMW in our supplier catalogue. The catalogue names the brand only, so our sales team confirms the BMW series, year and engine for each order. The valve is for combustion-engine cars.

How Is Every CL-3010 Solenoid Valve Tested Before Shipment?

Every CL-3010 is tested before shipment, one by one and not by sampling. A faulty valve that reaches a workshop comes back to you as a claim, so we look for the fault first. The process has five stages.

Incoming Parts

The valve body, cartridge, stem, coil, O-rings and spring are inspected before assembly. A damaged or weak part is removed here, before it becomes a valve that leaks or responds poorly.

Assembly

During assembly we check that the cartridge moves freely and that the assembly height matches the 73 mm drawing. CL-3010 carries three O-rings, Ø13.2 × 1.5, Ø16 × 1.5 and Ø20 × 2 mm, and a ring that is twisted or out of place will leak under pressure.

Electrical Tests on the Finished Valve

The coil of every finished valve is measured for resistance and insulation. Diode polarity is checked only on valves that carry a diode. A weak coil would not answer the A/C control unit, and the oval 2-pin plug would look normal from outside.

Function Tests on the Finished Valve

Next come valve action, response when powered and a check for sticking. Leak, flow and pressure-response tests follow, as the valve type requires. These show whether the valve moves when commanded and seals when it should.

When a Valve Fails a Check

A valve that fails any check is set aside, then reworked and tested again or removed. If the same fault repeats, we trace the whole batch. Problems are meant to be found on our line, not by your customers.

What Happens If Something Goes Wrong With an Order?
