What Does the VW AC Compressor Control Valve Do?

The VW AC compressor control valve is the small electronic valve on a Sanden PXE16 or PXE14 compressor that sets how much refrigerant the compressor pumps. CL-3001 is our replacement for it, and it works as a direct replacement for the original VW compressor control valve.

These compressors do not simply switch on and off. The valve receives an electronic signal and adjusts the compressor’s output to match how much cooling the car needs, so the A/C stays steady without wasting engine power. This VW AC compressor control valve fits the Volkswagen Golf, GTI, Jetta, Passat and Tiguan, and the Audi A3, when the car is fitted with a Sanden PXE16 or PXE14 compressor. That includes the Jetta in Mk5 and Mk6 form, such as the 2012 VW Jetta AC compressor control valve, and the VW Passat AC compressor control valve for Passat models with these compressors.

How Is Every Sanden PXE16 Control Valve Tested Before Shipment?

Each CL-3001 Sanden PXE16 control valve goes through at least three rounds of checks before it is packed. The valve is checked for coil resistance and insulation, and for diode polarity where the valve has one. It is then energized to confirm that it moves, responds when power is applied and does not stick, and leakage, flow and pressure-response tests are carried out according to the valve type.

The most important check is the movement test. An electronic control valve can look perfect from the outside and still have a faulty coil, restricted internal movement or a sealing problem, and none of these shows in a visual check. By energizing every valve and watching how it moves and responds, we catch these faults at our factory, not in your customer’s car, where a valve that sticks shows up as weak or unstable cooling.
